Casyn was a surprise when he was born.

For his mother, Angel, this was her first.

We were really nervous. It is hard to tell when they are going to deliver so we were guessing and not doing a good job of it. She was going to have the baby when she was good a ready.

All the babies born so far were born to our foundation animals, Natalia and Chiloe (they were two of the last imports in this county and both have passed on) and they came in the morning - like they were supposed to. But Casyn would have none of that.

Around 6:30pm I went down to feed. I left to go back to the house to check on something and came back. I walked through the stable to the other end where the animals were outside- and they were ALL standing there. Out of the corner of my lett eye I saw this tiny 'thing' hobble from beside the stable going toward the animals. For a split second I was wondering where it had come from.

Then I realized that Angel had delivered her first. The baby knew who her mother was and made a swaggering bee line toward her. Angel ran away and I thought I had a problem (I have since noticed that when a new baby is born, at the very first the mother walks away from it. I am not a vet nor can I read their minds, but I a betting they do that to get the baby to walk and strengthen their legs.

I watched and let mother nature take her course and sure enough after awhile mother and son began a bonding relationship. For us it was dark and nerve racking and we still had to deal with all the chores of birthing which meant - clean up the after birth, clean the baby up and disinfect where they were connected to their mother, and then find a chair and sit down and watch in amazement.

Casyn is a pure as snow white. He lets us pet him and his fleece it like rubbing air. When the wind blows his fleece looks like waves at the ocean. He is turning out to be something special!
